Deer Repellant Sickens Kids At Harford Co. Camp

JARRETTSVILLE, Md. (AP) — An emergency official says six children were taken to a hospital from a camp in Harford County after someone sprayed deer repellant into a cabin’s air conditioning unit.

Harford County Department of Emergency Services spokesman Robert Thomas Jr. says a hazardous materials response team was called to Camp Wo-Me-To near Jarrettsville on Tuesday night where a group of campers were experiencing respiratory and eye irritation.

Thomas says six campers were taken to Upper Chesapeake Health System in Bel Air, where they were treated and later released. He says another 12 campers were washed down by the hazardous materials team.

Thomas says it’s not clear if the incident was a practical joke or if the person who sprayed the repellant in the air conditioner had malicious intent.
