MANCHESTER, Md. (WJZ) — We’re learning more about the 12-year-old camper killed after a powerful storm toppled trees in Carroll County.

The young man has been identified by his family as Justin Nicholas Diggs of Baltimore. In a statement, his mother says:

“Justin Nicholas Diggs was born on November 26, 2001 in Baltimore, Maryland. He loved to swim, play basketball and loved being outside enjoying extreme activities, such as, zip-lining, bungee jumping and anything adventurous. He also loved to draw. Justin was a HAPPY, upbeat, very loving young man with a very BIG heart.  He would be a friend to anyone. He attended Pikesville Middle School, Hernwood Elementary School and Happy Acres Preschool. He was an honor student and received several steward awards for being kind and helpful to other students. He brought joy to his mother and grandmother and all who were lucky enough to know him.”

More than 100 children were heading for shelter at River Valley Ranch when falling trees killed Diggs and injured eight others.

All of the victims who were hospitalized are expected to recover.

River Valley Ranch and Diggs’ friends are raising money to celebrate his life and legacy. All funds will go directly to his mother. To make a donation, click here.
